Student Guidelines


Based on the Board of Governors' direction, all testing, proof of vaccination, or proof of COVID-19 in the last 90 days is strongly encouraged, but voluntary. Florida State University recommends that all students participate in this program to assist in the University's mitigation efforts.


  • Students may take a COVID-19 test at the Florida State University COVID-19 testing center within 2 days before the start of their activity. We are unable to accept negative COVID-19 tests from other providers in lieu of a COVID-19 test at FSU.

  • Students may provide proof of being fully vaccinated by emailing University Health Services at uhs-MedicalRecords@fsu.edu prior to the scheduled start of their activity.
    • Submissions must be received at least 2 business days prior to your arrival
    • When submitting proof of vaccination, ensure you indicate that you are sending documentation for clearance for (you may list all that apply):
      • Panhellenic Recruitment
      • Service Leadership Seminar
      • Marching Chiefs Preseason Training
    • Proof of Full Vaccination
      • Accepted forms of documentation include:
        • CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Card
        • Florida SHOTS record
        • Other state or international vaccination records
      • All documentation may be submitted as a photo, screenshot, or scanned copy and must be legible. Dates of administration must be included on the submitted documentation.
    • To be considered fully vaccinated:
      • It has been two weeks since you received the second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use – Pfizer BioNtech or Moderna; or the WHO authorized EU vaccines for emergency use such as Astra Zeneca-Oxford, Sinopharm, or Sinovac. The most up-to-date WHO list can be found here.
      • It has been two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the FDA and WHO authorized COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use – Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine.
      • For those considering vaccination, please consult the timetable to ensure you reach full immunity at least 14 days prior to your participation in the congregate activity.

  • Students may provide proof of a positive case of COVID-19 anytime in the 90 days prior to the scheduled start of an activity. Please email these records to University Health Services at uhs-MedicalRecords@fsu.edu. Please note, the COVID-19 antibody test will not be accepted as proof of a positive case. If the positive test was very recent and you are still needing to self-isolate, please do not return until you have been cleared from isolation.
    • Submissions must be received at least 2 business days prior to your arrival
    • When submitting test results, ensure you indicate that you are sending documentation for clearance for (you may list all that apply):

    • Proof of positive COVID-19 lab test
      • Accepted forms of documentation include:
        • Positive lab test result
        • Doctor's visit note that includes the positive COVID-19 lab result
      • The following forms of documentation WILL NOT be accepted:
        • Antibody tests
        • Hospital records
      • All documentation may be submitted as a photo, screenshot, or scanned copy and must be legible. Date of positive test result must be included on the submitted documentation.

Although, there is no guaranteed mitigation strategy to prevent COVID-19 transmission, vaccination for COVID-19 is your best bet for a successful return to student life.

If you have not yet been fully vaccinated, we recommend you do so as soon as possible. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after their second shot in a 2-dose series (Pfizer or Moderna) or two weeks after a single-shot vaccine (Johnson & Johnson).

If you are feeling ill or experiencing any symptoms (fever, cough, headache, etc.), please stay home to protect yourself and others.

If COVID-19 is detected via testing both the positive individual and anyone with whom they had close contact will be required to enter isolation/quarantine immediately. However, per CDC guidelines, fully vaccinated individuals who remain asymptomatic will be exempt from quarantine requirements and may continue activities.

Students in isolation or quarantine will be unable to continue in activities. If you are required to isolate, please know that Florida State University has very few isolation beds, and you will likely need to return home or find your own isolation space.

We are optimistic that we will have a safe and healthy return to student life this fall if we come together to do our part to keep each other safe in order to preserve student engagement opportunities for our community.

FSU Division of Student Affairs Event & Student Travel Protocols
Fall 2021 Semester – Effective August 9, 2021
Florida State University remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our campus community. The following criteria are in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local, state and federal guidelines. Please note, these guidelines are not exhaustive, and event planners and venue managers should consider all event-specific and venue-specific factors to mitigate risk and ensure the safety of event attendees.
Events hosted by student organizations and groups associated with the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) shall complete the appropriate event approval process with Campus Event Services or related DSA unit.

  • Events involving a large number of concurrent attendees may require the submission and approval of an enhanced risk management plan.  Such events are encouraged to be held outside in open air spaces, when possible.
  • Event planners may consider conducting virtual or hybrid events for persons of higher risk or vulnerability to illness from COVID-19.

The following guidelines and protocols are recommended for all events:

  • Face coverings are strongly recommended for all event attendees, particularly when large groups of people are present in enclosed spaces.
  • Physical distancing of at least 3 feet is recommended between all event attendees.
  • Food should be individually packaged or served to attendees by event staff.
    • Events with alcohol require the submission and approval of an enhanced risk management plan.
  • Hand washing and/or hand sanitizer stations should be readily available at the event.
  • Event advertising shall encourage persons of higher risk or vulnerability to illness from COVID-19 to refrain from attending the event and include the following information:
    • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is the best, most effective way to protect yourselves and others from getting COVID-19 and preventing disruption of your studies, social activities, teaching, research or work. All FSU students, faculty and staff are eligible for the vaccine. Those who choose not to be vaccinated are assuming significant risk of contracting COVID-19 and should be aware of the potential consequences, such as isolation and quarantine. Schedule a vaccination appointment at vaccine.fsu.edu.
  • Signage at event entrances shall inform attendees of COVID-19 symptoms and encourage persons exhibiting symptoms to refrain from entering the event space.
  • Event attendance shall be captured through a written attendance sheet, FSUCard Swipe application, or alternative method and must be made accessible for contact assessment upon request.
  • Tabling shall be permitted indoors and outdoors following the event guidelines for the hosting space.

Travel by FSU students through student organizations and other Division of Student Affairs entities is subject to the following guidelines:

  • Student organizations and groups may travel, in-state and out-of-state, when COVID-19 mitigation strategies are in place and the travel has been approved in advance by the appropriate DSA oversight unit for the organization (regular request process).  Student organization and group travel shall be aligned with the University-wide travel policy in effect for all members of the University community. 
  • For select events, the submission and approval of an enhanced risk management plan may be required.  The plan shall be submitted alongside the required documentation of the regular travel request process for that organization. Review and approval of such travel shall be completed by the Vice President for Student Affairs or designee.
